Skyhook’s proprietary mobile positioning system powers hundreds of billions of location requests. Our patented hybrid algorithms, refined over 10 years, combine data sources from mobile devices to return the fastest, most accurate, and battery-conscious time-to-first-fix location available on any operating system or device. Each time a device requests location, our on-device software prompts device sensors to scan for Wifi, GPS, cell tower and other relevant data.When our Precision Location software is embedded in an app or device, the result is highly accurate location data, often positioning devices down to 10-20 meters. Our system is continually refining itself, using machine learning techniques, with each location request we receive.For example, Skyhook only uses GPS data for positioning if the device can detect a significant number of satellites, in addition to using meta-data that indicates these signals have not been impacted before they reach the receiver. Our software only prompts the device for additional location scans if previous readings are not recent. Should too few satellites be available, or signal attributes indicate that they are statistically inaccurate, the hybrid algorithm progresses through a series of logical steps, checking the strength, recency and availability of other sources to deliver the most accurate and precise location while also minimizing resource consumption.
