Android search application integrates Skyhook's positioning for better location

BOSTON, MA - April 2, 2009 - Skyhook Wireless, provider of the patented Wi-Fi Positioning System (WPS) and the hybrid location system XPS, and Fuzzy Squirrel Software, developer of the Android search application What's That?, today announced an integration of Skyhook location into the app.  What's That? is the latest Android application to use XPS from Skyhook Wireless for faster and more reliable location results.

What's That? determines location and tells users about landmarks, stores, and other objects in the area, from coffee shops to mountains in the distance.  It searches multiple databases including Wikipedia for this useful information about a user's surroundings.

"Getting accurate, fast location is extremely important to users of this app, because they are typically travelers in new cities, and unaware of their surroundings,"  said Chris King, CEO of Fuzzy Squirrel Software.  "The Android location API returns location too slowly and too inaccurately to support my app. I really needed Skyhook Wireless to fill the gap that Android leaves in location."

"What's That? requires the best location available to serve location-relevant content to its on-the-go users," said Kate Imbach, director of marketing and developer programs at Skyhook Wireless. "Skyhook provides the only mobile location platform that supports this use case."

What's That? can be downloaded for $1 today in the Android Marketplace.
