Boston, MA - Skyhook the world leader in location information, context and intelligence, today announced the appointment of Jeffrey Glass as chief executive officer effective immediately. The appointment of Glass, a successful entrepreneur, investor and CEO who will also join the company's Board of Directors, is a critical step for Skyhook as it accelerates its global business. Glass succeeds company Founder Ted Morgan, who will remain actively involved with Skyhook and continue to serve on the Board.
Having pioneered the concept of Wi-Fi location in 2003, Skyhook's global network is approaching over one billion access points and it is currently deployed on over 100 million devices. It powers location-based services for companies such as Apple, Samsung, Sony, HP, Dell, MapQuest, Symantec, OpenTable, Priceline and hundreds of other mobile apps. Skyhook continues to break new ground and expand its presence in location accuracy, flexibility and power management while also helping to build the market for location-based intelligence with its SpotRank offerings.
“I am honored and delighted to be joining the Skyhook team,” said Glass. “Having helped create and power the world's global location infrastructure, Skyhook is one of the world's most innovative mobile companies so it's hard not to be excited. The company is profitable, growing and is bringing to market a host of intelligence-based, location-centric innovations while continuing to expand its core device footprint and leading geographic reach.”
Glass joins Skyhook from Bain Capital Ventures where he served as a managing director and focused on mobile and internet investments. Before joining Bain Capital Ventures, Glass was president & CEO of m-Qube, Inc., one of the Boston area's fastest growing technology companies prior to its acquisition by Verisign, Inc. in 2006. Glass previously helped to start and run several other successful businesses.
“After almost 10 years of building and leading Skyhook, it is the right time for new leadership to take the company to the next level,” said Morgan. “Jeff is a visionary leader with proven experience driving a technology-based mobile company through intense growth phases so he is uniquely qualified to lead Skyhook. We started Skyhook with a vision to map the world's Wi-Fi and today Wi-Fi location powers a huge number of the world's most popular apps and services around the globe. Working with great people in such an exciting part of the tech market has been a thrill. I could not be more proud of our team and the impact we have created in mobile.”
