In our new blog series, Skyhook Behind the Scenes, we want to highlight and show appreciation for some of the people at Skyhook who are behind the scenes powering our technology. These technology experts have helped Skyhook continue to be a leader in location technology and intelligence. The first Skyhooker we want to highlight in this series is Amruta Asbe, a member of our Geospatial team.

Amruta Asbe grew up in India and moved to the United States in 2013 to attend Northeastern University to get her Masters Degree in Informatics. She joined Skyhook almost four years ago because working here has allowed her to pursue her passion for geospatial work and analyzing data. Today she works on the venue database, ensuring all of the venues are accurate and mapping tiling from heterogeneous data sources to guide and audit field collection of Wi-Fi and cellular data.

Here's more about Amruta:

What made you choose geospatial as a career path?

I like maps and used to develop software for a train system, but most of all I love geography and locating things.

When did you start working at Skyhook?

I started working at Skyhook in May, 2014.

What attracted you to work at Skyhook?

Geospatial work. I love making maps and analyzing data.

What has been a big highlight in your career been since you started at Skyhook?

Drive campaigns and owning the venue database, which contains all of the locations that Skyhook provides. For example, I mapped out every McDonald's in the United States.

Where do you see the Geospatial industry 10 years from now?

I see it everywhere. The usage of maps will continue to grow. More people are requesting locations right now and I see that continuing. In terms of the technology it’s still new, but more and more people will want to know their location in the years to come.

What’s a fun fact about yourself?

I love baking and watching cooking shows such as the Great British Bake Off with Mary Berry. I also enjoy playing ping pong with colleagues in the office.

Where’s your favorite place to go in Boston?

I like spending time in the Seaport and the North End to be by the water and take in the views.

What do you do for fun in your free time?

I enjoy cooking, gardening and watching movies.

Stay tuned for our next Skyhook Behind the Scenes post and subscribe to our blog to learn more about our Geospatial technology.
