IBM Watson gained fame a few years ago when it beat all-time champion Ken Jennings on Jeopardy. Since then, Watson's cognitive abilities have become even more robust, branching out into multiple specialty areas, including Internet of Things (IoT). As a logical next step in our ongoing partnership with IBM Watson, Skyhook is proud to announce that Precision Location is now available via IBM Bluemix, making it even easier for our joint customers to create innovative IoT solutions.
Bluemix is IBM's cloud-based Platform-as-a-Service (PAAS) offering that enables developers to access infrastructure, services and applications to create and deploy data-driven, web-based applications and software within the IBM environment. Bluemix accelerates the development process by providing all the tools needed within a unified, searchable web environment. Bluemix also provides easily accessible products for enhanced security, storage, analytics and DevOps along with Watson and other IoT services.
Bluemix users can now access Skyhook's Precision Location product from within Bluemix, making it easier than ever to location-enable your IoT or other mobile applications. Skyhook is in the "Internet of Things" category under Services.
Getting started with Precision Location from Bluemix couldn't be easier. All you need is an IoT device that can connect to the Internet, an IBM Bluemix account, and a Skyhook Precision Location URL and API Key. Check out our "How To" article on the Bluemix blog for more information.
Skyhook's relationship with IBM Watson dates back to mid 2016 when we jointly participated in the TM Forum Hackathon in Nice, France where teams of "hackers" competed to see who could create the most innovative IoT solution for Smart Cities. The winning team created a solution using IBM Watson and Skyhook Precision Location.
Skyhook also has two "recipes" on IBM's developerWorks site, instructing developers how to geolocate any Wi-Fi enabled Internet of Things (IoT) device connected to the IBM Watson IoT Platform and how to add "context" to location with geofencing and personas.
In November, 2016, Skyhook and IBM presented a Webinar titled, "Where's My Asset" in which we demonstrated how to track assets using IoT, Precision Location, and IBM Watson. You can still view the Webinar on-demand by registering here.
