Skyhook recently hosted its first event in Japan at the brand new Yahoo Lodge in central Tokyo. Close to 60 executives around the technology space attended. Those in attendance included Skyhook’s customers, Sony and Softbank along with one of Skyhook’s global partners, IBM. Sharp’s RoBoHon, a mobile robot phone that uses Skyhook’s Precision Location, also made a special guest appearance and entertained the crowd.
The highlight of the night was when Nick Knellinger, Director of Product at Skyhook, and Ryuichi Ando, Skyhook Sales Co, presented on how to leverage location to unlock IoT value. The conversation centered around the explosion of IoT in Japan, and the challenges of adding location services to all of the new devices entering the market. Nick also touched on Skyhook’s Location Intelligence recently being used at the 2017 USGA Golf Innovation Experience as well as asset tracking with Precision Location and IBM Watson IoT.
Other companies in attendance included NEC, Nomura, Dentsu, Jorte, Mitsui, Rakuten, IDC, McDonalds, NTT Docomo, KDDI, and of course, Yahoo!
The future certainly looks bright in the land of the rising Sun!
