The last few years have seen a boom in the Internet of Things (IoT) market worldwide, and more-so in Japan.  Statista projects spending in the Japanese market to grow from $129 billion in 2016 to over $175 billion by 2020.

At the same time, Skyhook has invested heavily to build out its location network to power IoT devices in Asia.  This investment is starting to payoff as evidenced by Skyhook’s success with companies like Sharp, Sony and Softbank, in Japan.

Location based functionality is becoming a standard in IoT devices.  As the number of devices grows, so does the need to power them with actionable location data. Over the last 13 years, Skyhook has built a family of SDKs and APIs that support over 10 billion location transactions per year.  Our dedication to innovation has positioned us as a leader in providing accurate location services worldwide.

To support the growing Japanese market and to foster new collaborations, Skyhook is excited to announce the addition of two industry veterans:

Akihiro Miyasaka (Aki) has been in the IT industry for more than 25 years. Aki has built an expansive network of major corporations across Japan.  His background is in telephony systems, contact centers, and logistic solutions.

Ryuichi Ando (Ando) has been working in the contact center solutions market for more than 15 years and has strong contacts with Japanese carriers such as NTT, KDDI, and Softbank.

As an introduction to the new team and a celebration of our business in Japan, we are hosting an event at the Yahoo Event Lodge in Tokyo on June 22nd, from 6PM to 9PM.  We will have Director of Product, Nick Knellinger, deliver a presentation on the power of geolocation in an IoT world.  Space is limited so please sign up as soon as you can.

Skyhook looks forward to our continued growth and success, with Aki and Ando on the team our future is very bright!
